A trip to the top of  Table Mountain by cable car, a cultural tour of District Six and the townships of Gugulethu, Langa and Kayelitsha, a trip to Robben island or a full day trip to Cape Point National Park are very popular choices.

Cape Winelands

Days 5 – 6. Cape Town – Cape Winelands After breakfast, a leisurely one hour drive takes you to Western Cape wine region, the Cape Winelands. Spend two days meandering through the pretty towns of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl and wine farms sampling their fine cuisine, tasting their wines and of course, browsing the many art galleries and boutique shops.

Days 7 – 8. Coastal route to Hermanus & Gansbaai Drive along the spectacular coastal road via Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay to Hermanus. Keep an eye out for whales on route (seasonal).

We highly recommend a day trip to nearby Gansbaai. Its well known “shark alley” is a great spot for viewing the great white shark either from the safety of a boat or shark cage diving for the adventurous.

Juan Sanchez All About Tailor made Travel, Camps Bay beachJuan Sanchez from All About Tail0r made Travel recommends:

“If this is your first of even your second or third trip to South Africa, this self drive itinerary suggestion might be just perfect. There are so many different route options when driving along the scenic Garden Route that we just had to pick the most ideal one but by all means, we can adjust the route to your specific requirements. Same applies to your accommodation choices. There are lovely hotels in Cape Town, like the One and Only, The Bay Hotel at Camps Bay or our absolute favourite, the Radisson Blu Waterfront ( ocean view rooms ) but of course, these hotels are a lot more expensive. Along the Garden Route, we love Hog Hollow in Plettenberg Bay. Must do’s on this trip: Cultural Tour in Cape Town and a visit to Robben Island. Of course, see the sunset at Blue Peter Hotel if you can and have a glass of champagne at Bakoven beach also at sunset. These are “momentos” that will forever live in you. When is the best time to travel to South Africa? The answer would be all year around. During our summer months, the weather cool down in South Africa and it is their winter. It is lovely to do a Safari in the cold months and cozy next to your fire place… Cape Town easily reaches 20 to 22 degrees Celsius between June to August and there is never wind during this period. Saying that, weather is unpredictable and sometimes it rains for four or five consecutive days.”
