Best time to visit Ecuador

The temperatures in Ecuador don’t change much throughout the year, so the seasons of spring, summer, winter, and fall pass unnoticed. Rainy season must be taken into consideration though.

Ecuador experiences a wet and dry season each year, though the timeframe of each varies by region. Throughout the highlands October through May tends to be wetter than the months of June through September. January through April are often rainier and warmer on the coast while the months of April through November are when you’ll find the most rain near the Amazon.

Ecuador sits directly on the equator which means the entire country enjoys 12 hours of direct equatorial daylight 365 days a year. However, climate will vary depending whether you visit the mountains, the Pacific Coast, Galapagos Islands or the rainforest in the Eastern part of Ecuador.

If you are planning to visit Quito, Cuenca or the Andes then June to September will be your best time to travel. These months are considered winter in South America, perfect time to explore Otavalo market, trek the Quilotoa loop or just hang out with the llamas at the Ingapirca archaeological site.

Temperatures can vary a lot from morning to evenings and with altitude but June to September months are best for verdant season and highlands full of life. To avoid high prices and restricted availability it is always best to book early.

Best value for money months are considered to be October and November, also to visit the Amazon. You can expect rain in this part of Ecuador all year round but during October and November months, there’s always less rain so it is a bit of dry season and ideal to spot wildlife.

For visiting Galapagos Islands, we recommend December to May months. One can expect warm sunny days with a few short storms in the afternoons.
