Gay holidays to Cuba

Cuba is becoming an increasingly popular travel destination for gay men and women from all over the World. There is no doubt that timesSpecial Offers are changing and Cuban society has become a lot more tolerant towards the LGBTQ+ community than a decade ago. Gone are the days of overt state homophobia and a confident new generation of gay and lesbian Cubans are finding it easier to come out and organise themselves.

There are many reasons to visit Cuba. Cuba’s vibrant capital Havana is an iconic, quirky and exciting city. We recommend at least a minimum stay of three or four nights in Havana. The architecture is simply stunning, the energy on the streets uplifting and a sense of glamour still evident. The artistic zest is enthralling and the sense of history is mesmerizing. Hemingway’s flavour can be sensed in Old Town and of course, in Finca Vigia, where he spent many years of his life.

Best beaches in Cuba for same sex couples

  • Cayo Levisa island is a little paradise located two hours by road and 30 minutes by boat from Havana. There are no roads, no cars, nothing but a few rustic beach bungalows, lots of palm trees, white sand and gorgeous secluded swimming beaches. Cayo Levisa is a very private place where you can surely walk with your other half, hold hands and cuddle on the beach without feeling observed. Also, for same-sex newly-wed couples and gay honeymoons, Cayo Levisa is ideal.
  • Cayo Jutias is one of Cuba’s most beautiful beaches and… with no hotels, no bars, no crowds… it is located 30 minutes from Vinales town, West of Cuba.
  • Playas del Este are the beaches of Havana, just 30 minutes away from Old Havana. Mi Cayito is the preferred beach for the LGTBQ+ crowd.

Cayo Largo, Cayo Coco, Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Santa Maria offer a higher standard of accommodation. Some hotels like Melia Cayo Coco or the exclusive Melia Buenavista are reserved for adults only.

Bienvenido a Casa Flamboyan, Havana

Bienvenido a Casa Flamboyan, Havana

CASA FLAMBOYAN is our leading gay friendly CASA PARTICULAR in Havana. Located in the vibrant Vedado district this is one of Havana’s best rated private licensed accommodations in Trip Advisor. The owner of Casa Flamboyan is a friendly Italian in his late 30’s, Tiziano Santandrea, who booked a holiday to Cuba through us back in 2012, and fell in love not only with Cuba but also with his now husband of many years, Jesus. Together they have now hosted hundreds of guests and we congratulate them for their lovely guest house and great job as best gay hosts in the entire Cuba! They will welcome you as if you were part of the family and will tip you on best local restaurants and things to do in Havana.

You will find most of the best hotels in Havana are in Old Havana. Our favourite hotels in Havana are the 5-star Iberostar Parque Central (with a stunning roof-top swimming pool offering panoramic city views), Florida Hotel and Mercure Sevilla Hotel, also a hotel in Old Havana and with swimming pool.

Hotel Nacional is a landmark iconic building in Havana, with lots of Art Deco glamorous features. Nothing beats taking a vintage Chevrolet to this landmark hotel, sipping cocktails on the terrace and watching the sun set over the iconic malecon seafront. Nacional Hotel is located in the New Vedado district, with Yara Cinema, the popular Coppelia ice-cream shop at Coppelia park, and the famous Jazz Club La Zorra y el Cuervo.

The local gay community gathers every evening at The Malecon ( literally two minute walk from Hotel Nacional ), sitting by the ocean, sharing stories, playing the guitar and drinking local Rum.

Talking to the friendly locals is the best way to find out what goes on and where with regards to the best parties in town! Word of mouth is easy in Cuba, of course, always with precaution.

In Havana, we recommend dining at La Guarida, a beautiful paladar or private restaurant in Old Havana. The excellent Cuban gay themed movie Strawberry and Chocolate was partially filmed here. Most celebrities when they visit Cuba ( Steven Spielberg, Uma Thurman, Tom Hanks, Beyonce and Jay Z, Madonna and even former President of United States, Barack Obama and his family) have also dined here. The food is excellent and prices are very reasonable, compared to similar experiences in other Caribbean Islands, although a bit pricey for Cuban standards.

Best time to visit Cuba

Cuba enjoys tropical climate all year round so it is always warm. Our favourite months are our winter months, January through to May, May being the best. You will get low season flight prices and better hotel availability.

The official hurricane season in Cuba runs from end of June to October. September and October are usually the most affected months with clouds and frequent rain.
