Your nearest subway station is Shinjuku-Gyoemmae Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, situated just a one-minute walk from the hotel’s main entrance. The rest of the day is free to settle in, shake off the jet lag and take your first stroll through the neon-lit streets of Shinjuku.
Your hotel features an Onsen or traditional Japanese public bath, which might be just perfect to relax and unwind after your long flight.

After landing safely at Narita or Haneda airport, get your SUICA card and add some credit to it so you are ready to take public transport anywhere in Japan. You can also pre-purchase your mobile SIM card so you are connected the moment you land. Spend the day at your own pace in Shinjuku. Climb up to the free observation decks of the Metropolitan Government Building for sweeping views over the city (and Mount Fuji on a clear day), then unwind in the beautiful Shinjuku Gyoen national garden. As evening falls, the district transforms: the lantern-lit alleys of Omoide Yokocho and Golden Gai are perfect for yakitori and a drink, before the night really begins in Shinjuku Ni-chome. The most popular local gay bars and clubs are practically across the street from your confirmed hotel in Tokyo. Just ask us for our best recommendations. Start your first full day in Asakusa, home to Senso-ji, the oldest temple in Tokyo, and the lively Nakamise shopping street leading up to it. From here you can walk along the Sumida River for views of the Tokyo Skytree. In the afternoon, head across the city to Shibuya for the famous scramble crossing, then continue on foot to Harajuku and Omotesando, where Takeshita Street's youth fashion sits side by side with the calm cedar forest of Meiji Jingu shrine. Tokyo is best explored neighbourhood by neighbourhood rather than city-wide. Group your sights by area and use the metro only to jump between them — you will walk less and see far more. Begin the morning at Tsukiji Outer Market, still the best place in the city for a fresh sushi breakfast, then walk through the elegant streets of Ginza and the peaceful gardens surrounding the Imperial Palace. In the afternoon, cross the Rainbow Bridge to Odaiba, Tokyo's waterfront district, and finish the day with sunset views back across the bay to the skyline. Kamakura, less than an hour from Tokyo, is a former political capital of Japan filled with temples, shrines and the celebrated Great Buddha. From there, the vintage Enoden line runs along the shoreline towards the little island of Enoshima. Kamakura and Enoshima can perfectly be done in one day. Visit the temples in Kamakura first, then head to Shichirigahama Beach, where the view of Mount Fuji is spectacular on a clear day. Finish your day in Enoshima, walking along the promenade built out over the ocean with more great views of Mount Fuji. Fancy a close encounter with Mount Fuji? Today is the day. Hakone offers hot springs, a lake cruise on Lake Ashi and the volcanic valley of Owakudani, while Lake Kawaguchiko gives you the classic postcard view of Fuji reflected in the water, with lakeside cycling paths and viewpoints all around. Take a one-hour bus from Shinjuku Station (a 15-minute walk from your hotel) and spend the day in either Hakone or Lake Kawaguchiko. We recommend renting an e-bike for the day — it is a lot of fun! Mount Fuji is famously shy: mornings in the cooler months give you the best chance of a clear view. Depending on your flight time, you may have a last morning to pick up souvenirs or revisit a favourite corner of the city, before your driver takes you back to the airport for your flight home. Is Japan a gay friendly destination?
Absolutely. Japanese people are extremely polite and respectful, but it is important to remember that, as visitors, we should also adapt to their local customs and standards of behaviour. For example, people do not normally speak on the phone while using public transport, and smokers must use designated smoking areas when outdoors. These are just a couple of examples, as Japan has many small social rules and customs that visitors are expected to respect. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community you will feel very comfortable there.
